OktoberFest concerts moved inside

Sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry. Especially when dealing with the ever-changing weather in North Dakota.
Now, the age of modern technology allows weather forecasters to review computer models of expected weather weeks down the road.
According to some of these weather models, the news for the 2014 Hazen OktoberFest was not good.
Hazen Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Terri Philion inquired about October 11, the day of The Voice’s Kat Perkins concert to be held on Main Street and the weather expected?
Rain and 40 degrees.
Enough said for Philion.
After much discussion with Recreation Director Dan Frei and the Winter Sports Board, the decision was made to allow the Chamber to move the concerts indoors at the Hazen All-Season Arena.
Now, Perkins will perform at 10:30 p.m. after Hazen’s own Tigirlily opens the show at 9 p.m. on Oct. 11.
“It is a positive change,” said Philion. “We are very fortunate Winter Sports were willing to delay the start of their season by a week to help the community out.
“We can make this event a success. We were relying on the weather and it was not looking promising, so we’d rather be prepared and put on a great show rather than scrambling at the last minute to try and make a change.”
