Percussionist featured at 20th Jazz Night

Every year Hazen student musicians are able to display their talents for the community at a Hazen Jazz Night performance. These nights also feature a special guest performer for students and residents to enjoy. This year, a special performance will mark 20 years of the community event.
Dr. Lucas Bernier, assistant professor of music and the director of percussion studies at the University of Mary, will be the guest musician. Bernier embraces a variety of styles and genres of music and is the principal percussionist in the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra.
Both the Hazen band and choir programs will take part in the Jazz Night performance this year, the 20th Annual Jazz Night performance at the Hazen High School Uncommons.
Kim Wolf and Penny Mattheis, both parents of high school students in the music program, are the co-chairs of the night, which is put on by parents. The performance is paid for by donations from area businesses.
Kicking off with a spaghetti supper at 5 p.m. Feb. 29, the actual concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The spaghetti supper is a large fundraiser for the bands (and this year the choir as well), for a combined trip that the students take.
