Preparing for the worst

Preparing for the worst

By Daniel Arens

If emergency personnel need to respond to an incident, it’s hoped that the situation is one that can be readily and easily addressed.
But the mark of successful emergency responders is to be able to prepare for any disaster, even the worst kind of catastrophe.
Mercer County’s Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) does exercises to prepare its members for those potentially awful situations. Often, the exercises revolve around hazardous waste material. With the close proximity of the power plants and mines to local communities, it’s best to be ready if an incident involving the chemical products they produce should arise.
