Principal resigns at Hazen High School

By Lee Coleman

Ed Boger, principal at Hazen High School for 13 years, resigned from the principal’s position effective June 13 in a letter presented to the Hazen School Board Monday night.
“I would like to thank the school board and staff of Hazen Public School for the opportunities which were provided for me and my family,” he wrote. “There are many memories I will cherish forever. I will miss the students the most.
“I will be keeping in touch with the school and helping out where I can.”
Although he was aware of the pending resignation, Hazen superintendent Mike Ness has been with Boger the entire time.
“He is an outstanding principal,” Ness said. “He cares about kids and every decision he made is related to the lives of the kids. He cared so deeply, his first line of making decisions were the kids.
“We will all miss him. He made the decision to retire and after many years in education, he thought it was time.
Boger did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
In other matters, 21-year veteran boys basketball coach Randy Johnson resigned that coaching position, citing overwhelming schedule demands as a coach and activities director. Johnson will assist in the search for a new coach.
