Regional airport’s fly-in open to all lovers of pancakes and aviation

Hazen’s quaint portal to the friendly skies will be hosting its annual “Fly-In” on Saturday for people of all ages to learn more about the Mercer County Regional Airport.
The airport, which “most people just call the Hazen Airport,” according to airport authority member Ron Muth, has been hosting the fly-in in conjunction with the Hazen Fire Department for at least the last 15 years as a fundraiser for the department and awareness campaign for the airport.
“I just invite people to come out and take a look at the facility,” Steve Frovarp, airport clerk, said. “There have been people who come and say, ‘Gee we’ve never been out here before – didn’t know it was this nice of a facility.”
The event will be held from 7 a.m. to noon and the fire department will be cooking up and serving pancakes and sausage furnished by the airport. Though it’s called a “fly-in,” one doesn’t need to be a wealthy jetsetter to attend.
