Renovated City Pool to be a crowned jewel

As long as Mother Nature cooperates, the $600,000 voter approved initiative to renovate the Hazen City Pool should be completed and ready for swimming visitors on June 14.
Last June, voters approved a 1/2 cent sales tax increase to fund the project that will be a renaissance of one of the city’s crowned jewels much in the need for upgrades and repairs.
Associated Pool Builders of Bismarck are doing the work and Parks and Recreation Director Dan Frei said June 14 is still on as far as he knows.
“Our goal was to create a pool that was usable for all age groups,” Frei said. “A lot of pools are oriented towards small children.”
In the new pool, small children will have a zero entry graded slope, a toddler slide and a dew drop complete with geysers.
“It is a little more friendly for moms to hang out with small children,” Frei said.
A large floating crocodile should be a big attraction as well as the climbing wall, one meter diving board and the ever-popular water slide that will receive new gel coating and a new color to replace ‘Big Blue’.
“The crocodile will be fun for kids that want to climb on it and play ‘King of the Crocodile,” Frei explained. “My kids love it. It will create a little risk that is fun just like the climbing wall.”
