Small but strong showing for rodeo

There may only be three students from Hazen involved in rodeo this year, but those three are making a name for themselves at competition.
For both high school competitor Paige Johnson and junior high competitors Layton Sailer and Sydney Mosset, rodeo is a split season, with fall and spring competitions and the final score blended from both seasons.
Sailer is a sixth grader in his first year of junior high rodeo. He is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Logan, who had qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo., this past July. Sailer is currently in seventh place in chute dogging and tied for sixth place in team roping. He is also in break-away roping.
“It’s about the funnest thing I’ve ever done,” Sailer said, adding thanks to “my parents, too, for taking me to all of the events.”
“[Layton] is sitting really good for his first year out,” said Patty Mosset, science teacher and rodeo instructor.
Sydney Mosset is an eighth grader and is a two-time qualifier for the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in pole bending. The Junior High National Finals were held in Lebanon, Tenn., this past summer.
