Students make potentially rare find at KRIV
Knife River Indian Villages staff are abuzz with excitement. And if tests confirm what is believed to be true, that excitement is well justified. Two students from summer field school at University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, unearthed what is thought to be a pottery-firing pit along the banks of the Knife River at Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site north of Stanton. If tests confirm the find, which is dated back to the 1500s, it might be the first of its kind found along the Missouri River.
