Talent on the ice: From a team to a family

Talent on the ice: From a team to a family

By Daniel Arens

There are all kinds of neat tricks that the kids of the Hazen Figure Skating Club can do.
From those hardly out of their toddler status to those preparing themselves for their upcoming graduation this spring, all of the many members have a talent they can showcase. But even more, these kids of all ages, coming from places all around the area, have also become a kind of family.
“It was kind of people just started talking and it passed by word of mouth,” Kaitlin Meyhoff, advanced coach, said. “We’re kind of like that mom and pop hometown club, we’re all like family here.”
The club includes kids from Hazen, Beulah, Center, Stanton, Zap, Golden Valley, Washburn, New Salem, Glen Ullin and even Dickinson.
Recently, nine of the skaters in the club had the chance to show off some of their talents during a competition in Minot. Three student coaches also attended with the kids they’re teaching.
