Thirty years later: A passion for raising horses
By Daniel Arens
At the age of 53, Albert Kilber decided he wanted to pursue his passion for raising these animals as teams of two. His decision took him to many states as he sought the best horses to buy and then in his turn sold the best horses he could raise.
Thirty years later, Kilber, who lives northeast of Hazen, can still remember the first team of black horses he bought, born in 1985. Since that point, Kilber has raised 114 separate teams, with 200 of the 228 horses coming out of the state of Indiana, and the others closer to home in North and South Dakota.
“I did a lot of business with the Amish, and went [to Indiana] until 2005,” Kilber said.
