A safe haven

When Sherry Grey received a call on Nov. 18 about a rescue dog being taken from an abusive home, she knew she needed to help.
“I asked her if she could come over and see how things went,” Grey said about the call to the foster mother of her new rescue dog, Abby.
Abby, Grey said, was a stray dog in Kirby, Texas, found wandering the streets after Hurricane Harvey. She was brought to North Dakota and adopted out of a local shelter, but didn’t stay in her new home for long.
“She was a Hurricane Harvey puppy that was adopted,” Grey said. “I don’t know all the details, but she was taken out of the abusive home and was going to be fostered again.”
Grey said she invited Abby and her foster mom to her home in Washburn, welcoming the 7-month-old lab cross in the door, and realizing soon that she was there to stay. Grey said she adopted Abby on Nov. 21, and has been caring for the timid pup since.
Grey said she is getting to know Abby, and finding clues to her past along the way.
