Anatomy students observe live surgery

"Disgusting" was one word used to describe it. But other students thought observing a total knee replacement surgery was neat. "I thought it was easy to watch," junior Samantha Tweeten said. "It depends how strong your stomach is." While she might not want to be a surgeon, Tweeten said she would like to work in the medical field someday. So, when her anatomy class got the chance to observe a live surgery last week, Tweenten saw it as a valuable learning experience. Students from two sections of Washburn high school teacher Stacy Boeshans’ anatomy class got to observe a total knee replacement surgery last week via live interactive television. The surgery observation was facilitated by Education Technology Services (EduTech), which arranges surgery viewings so that students can learn about anatomy without leaving the classroom, said EduTech representative Kari Sauer.
