Petersen selected for Academic All-State Team
With graduation fast approaching, it’s no wonder Drew Petersen has a smile on his face. In his years as a student at Washburn High School, he’s experienced his fair share of proud moments; a result of his hard work and dedication. Just recently, he added a new merit to his list of accomplishments.
Drew was selected as a silver member of the 2014 North Dakota Academic All-State Team, Class B division. To be considered for this award, high school seniors must be nominated by their school principal and compete for the honor on a state-wide basis. Washburn High School Principal Glen Weinmann nominated Drew, saying, "With Drew being the Valedictorian of his class, he was a prime candidate for the gold award."
Bergquist named President’s Volunteer Service Award winner
Kids are squealing, their sneakers squeaking on the gym floor, on a warm, summer afternoon. With her long, brown hair tied back in a ponytail, gym shorts and tank top on, you won’t hear any complaints coming from Jocelyn Bergquist. She is in her element. Although it’s her summer vacation from school, there is no where else she’d rather be than volunteering her time with these kids, at their much anticipated summer basketball camp.
Because of her volunteerism, Jocelyn, the daughter of Les and Jill Bergquist of rural Wilton, was chosen as a President’s Volunteer Service Award winner. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. This award was granted by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama.
