Bids awarded for street improvements

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Bids for street, sewer and water repairs came in under the estimated cost at the recent bid opening at the Washburn City Hall. City commissioners approved of the construction bid from Kvamsdahl Construction for a total of $2.68 million. The construction crew will come from Willmar, Minn. The start date of construction is still unknown, but work must be completed before the end of fall, according to AE2S design engineer Jasper Klein. The city received four bids for the project and Kvamsdahl was the low bid overall. The commissioners approved the following projects. The project includes replacing existing water main including services, reconstruction of the street, removal and replacement of select curb and gutter, sidewalk  and driveways as identified by and agreed upon by owner along 4th Ave. from 3rd St. to 12th St.; and 8th St. from 4th Ave. to 6th Ave.
