Blizzard Bluegrass set for Jan. 12-13

Attendees of next week’s Blizzard Bluegrass weekend will be able to both listen and learn during two days of performances and a one-day educational workshop in Bismarck.
For the 13th year, Blizzard Bluegrass is returning to Bismarck State College to bring together music lovers of all ages. Jill Wiese, event organizer and musician for Washburn-Center band Cotton Wood, said bands will perform on both evenings at the college.
“Friday and Saturday, January 12 and 13 nights’ concerts are at 7 p.m. each night and doors open at 6:15 p.m,” Wiese said. “Cotton Wood is the host band and we do open each night for our headline band -- The High Plains Tradition out of the Denver, Colorado area.”
Wiese said that for those wanting to explore bluegrass music, there is a workshop on Saturday for all ages.
“Saturday is the ‘Learn a bluegrass song’ workshop from 2-4 p.m. in the BSC band room,” Wiese said. “This event is free, in part to a donor. Bring your guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo, dobro, fiddle and voice.”
Wiese said the bluegrass workshop, and seeing the “light bulb go on” as musicians learn, is her favorite part of the weekend.
