Southern McLean football co-op of Washburn, Wilton and Wing may have its last season this fall.

Washburn School Board members voted unanimously Monday evening to discontinue the co-op with the other two schools because the size of the co-op would push the team into playing in a Class AA division with larger schools.

School Board President Rick Tweeten said, "I definitely think we don’t want to play double AA football. If we wait some of the other schools won’t have any opportunity to do anything. I think it’s the prudent thing to do."

Superintendent Brad Rinas said dissolving the co-op now meets the ND High School Activities requirements, but doesn’t lock the school in indefinitely.

He said, "There is no reason we can’t rejoin with Wilton later on."
