Bound for the Big Apple

"Two weeks and six days.”
That’s what Wilton senior Kendra Schill’s countdown clock read Friday when she looked to see how long she still had to wait for her trip to New York City, where she will perform in a women’s choir at Carnegie Hall.
Schill is one of approximately 700 high school students from across the globe taking part in the 2018 Honors Performance Series, which will take her to the Big Apple on Feb. 1.
“I’ll be performing in the women’s choir at Carnegie Hall, but there is also a group of band students who will have a concert,” Schill said.
Schill, who lives in Wing and goes to school in Wilton, was nominated for the program by her choir instructor, Elizabeth Haugen. Schill said she was given the opportunity to audition for either the Carnegie Hall performance or one at the Sydney Opera house, and she opted for the New York Location. Schill submitted an audition tape in the fall of 2017, and then she waited.
“They said that on Oct. 31, we would get results back. So that day, I sat refreshing and refreshing, but I didn’t get a message,” Schill said.
