A Washburn woman is starting her own eatery this month in the very building where she fell in love with cooking.
Jenny Dutoit is putting finishing touches on Cafe 77, a brand new eatery opening up next week on Main Avenue Washburn. The restaurant has fresh decor and a brand new menu, though the location is a familiar one for Dutoit.
“I worked for Trudy (Shoemaker) for five and a half years,” Dutoit said. She said she was been a cook in the then Lewis & Clark Cafe, which closed in 2014?  The cafe reopened under new ownership in the fall of 2015, before closing shop again in 2016.
Dutoit said she made the decision to take on the venture and give Washburn locals another place to dine. She said the inspiration for the cafe’s name partially came from her husband, James, who she said has been helping her every step of the way.
“1977 is the year I was born, my husband’s mud truck number and the last two digits of Washburn’s zip code,” Dutoit said.
