"Don’t worry. The broasted chicken is staying,” Emmy Barnick said with a laugh.
Whether or not a local favorite would stay on the menu is one of the most common questions Emmy says she has heard since news got out that she, her husband and a Bismarck couple are buying the Captain’s Cabin.
Emmy, who farms and runs several businesses in Washburn with her husband Brent, said she never had plans to own a bar, but when the current owners of Captain’s Cabin in Washburn lowered the price, the group decided to put in an offer. The offer was accepted, and next week, the sale will officially close.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” Emmy said. “It’s all happened so fast, in less than a month.”
The bar has been owned by Ron and Margie Possen for 17 years, but the couple is hanging up their hats on Sept. 18 as ownership changes to the Barnicks and Dave and Jennifer Bjork of Bismarck.
