Civic Club members voted Tuesday to contribute to Washburn’s new strategic plan, aiming to step in as WAEDA reportedly gets closer to dissolution.
Speaking to those present at Tuesday’s Civic Club meeting, WAEDA board member Tony Thoreson said the future of the organization looked grim, but he was hoping a new strategic plan was still possible. Thoreson said the development of a new plan was being funded by grant money and he would like to see it utilized.
Civic Club president Claudia Scott asked members if they would consent to Civic Club helping to develop the new plan, with assistance from WAEDA and city officials. Scott said Civic Club would retain the right to say no to a plan with which it disagreed.
Scott said at some point, both WAEDA and Civic Club may dissolve, with a new organization being formed for Washburn. She said no decisions have yet been made on the matter.
City Commission president Larry Thomas made a motion to proceed with helping to develop a strategic plan, and Jenell Olson provided a second. The only votes were in favor and the motion passed.
