Commission OKs 2016 schedule

The Washburn City Commission looked once again at going from one to two monthly meetings when they met on Dec. 16 at City Hall, before approving a final 2016 schedule.

President of the Commission Larry Thomas introduced the idea early in the meeting, saying that meetings can get very long when the panel only gets together once a month. His fellow commissioners seemed unsure.

"I think it’s already hard enough to get people to run for city commission, and then you make it even more of a commitment," commissioner Keith Jacobson said. He said he liked the previously-proposed calendar, which had the commission meeting once a month except for a few select months when it was necessary to meet more often.

Thomas asked for more input from the rest of the group, and heard some more hesitation from commissioner Kit Baumann, who questioned how realistic it would be to do year round.
