Commission pleased with public’s nod for courthouse

By Cheryl Odden, BHG News Service

The morning after last week’s General Election, McLean County commissioners seemed pleased with voter support to build a new county courthouse. This past Wednesday, just a few hours after the last county precinct submitted its results, commissioners gathered for their first of two regular November meetings. And, while the topic of a new courthouse was on the day’s agenda, it did receive brief attention. During the meeting, commissioners were presented results from the most recent indoor air quality testing. There, in black and white, was information that had not been available when the voters cast their ballots. According to the report, provided by Western Plains Consulting, H Capsulatum spores (linked to Histoplasmosis, a disease that has sickened two courthouse employees) were detected during the July 21 round of air sampling in the "new" 1960s addition to the courthouse.
