Construction setbacks trip up school traffic

By Alyssa Schafer

City and school officials met with representatives from Toman Engineering Aug. 14 to discuss the way construction will affect school access. Beyond the inconvenience of having to drop students off farther away from the school building and disrupted bus routes, the danger the construction site presents is of great concern to city officials. City Commissioner Kim Klaudt said, "Any time you have a hole or a dirt pile, that’s a magnet for kids. We were hoping this was going to be done before school started." The projected construction schedule for the first couple days of school will include more underground and street work. Northern Excavating will continue replacing the water main and water services on Sixth Avenue from Seventh Street to Northgate Road.
