Cool to be kind

Cool to be kind

Washburn Elementary School’s fifth-grade class pounded the pavement during a Nov. 25 shopping spree that saw students each spend $10 — donated by an anonymous philanthropist — to fill stockings for the needy.

Following their trip to the Family Dollar store on Highway 83, the students dropped off a vast array of packaged toys at Dakota West Credit Union just a few doors down. The purchased items were subsequently placed in holiday stockings
and set aside for individual youngsters throughout McLean County.

“This trip is about giving to our community and helping out those who are less fortunate this holiday season,” observed fifth grade math and spelling teacher Suzann Jacobson.

“This whole year, we’re just focusing on being kind and we want to bring smiles to people’s faces. Hopefully, it ends up being a chain reaction where we see people doing a kind thing when they see what we’re doing.”
