While new County Auditor Beth Knutson did address the county’s city auditors and other officials at this past Wednesday night’s meeting in Underwood, much of the meeting focused more on how the county is fighting the influx of drug traffic in the state.
McLean County Sheriff J.R. Kerzmann and State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson led the discussion of much of the second half of Wednesday’s meeting with the county and city officials in Underwood, after brief discussion on new preliminary budget requirements moved on to discussion about police enforcement in the cities and along the Highway 83 corridor.
Initially Kerzmann addressed Driving Under Suspension issues and speed zones, advising cities to increase the fines for speeding to help crack down on the violations and make violators feel the pinch in the pocketbook a little more.
Kerzmann suggested the cities bump up their fines to $5 per mile over the speed limit.
“Bump them up so it’s worth our time,” Kerzmann said.
Riverdale City Auditor Del Kolke said her city’s residents would like to see more patrolling in town.
