Course upgrades in full swing

While the rest of the community was snuggled inside this winter, three welders volunteered to battle the cold to bring Painted Wood Golf Course up to, what some say will be championship standards.
Chad Bengston and Charlie Winn of Washburn and Jason Cleveland of Wilton were among the many volunteers who donated materials, labor and equipment to ready the golf course for 18 holes by this fall.
The three welders donated between 100-125 hours to bring the course to 18 holes, according to board president Trevor Leidy.
Leidy said the three bridges would have cost a total of $250,000, but instead were done for about $25,000 because of the beams donated by Basin Electric and the labor. The 55-foot beams hauled from Bismarck "basically cost us just a tank of diesel fuel," Leidy said.
The list of people who have worked hard through fund raising, labor and materials is long, with Leidy afraid that he will overlook mentioning someone. He credited Jason Schauer of Unlimited Excavating of Washburn and Brent Basaraba of Basaraba Excavating of Wilton with donating equipment. Al Carvell gave the course organizers a sweet price on land and sand.
