Courthouse move runs into some technical difficulties

By Michael Johnson, Editor

The McLean County Courthouse continues to cause frustrations for county commissioners and courthouse employees, as more needs to be done before anyone can move. During the last county commission meeting, commissioners approved the move for social services to the Sandy Swanson/Nodak Mutual Insurance building and the County Weed and Pest would be moving to Garrison. That move can’t happen until all items to be moved have been cleaned to remove any hazardous spores known to be caused by bat guano. Curt Malo, maintenance supervisor, explained that the cleaning contract had to be rebid and all previous bidders and those who did not get a chance to bid can bid. Some of the language in the contract changed to include further safety concerns. "We decided it would be better just to rebid everything," Les Korgel, county auditor, said. This will put off the cleaning process until after the June Primary, Korgel said. "That will save us some headaches," Korgel said.
