Daina Degenstein, Tim Dockter on the ballot for city commission position

Former school board member aims to serve the ‘common good’

After years of putting thoughts of returning to public office on the backburner, Downtown Washburn auto mechanic Tim Dockter sees the upcoming city commissioner’s election as an opportune time to serve his community in a meaningful way.

As a one-time member of the Washburn School Board, where the married father of six and now grandfather of 13 helped govern the local district, Dockter is currently relishing his next shot to foster positive change in the town he was born and raised in.

 

Political newcomer prioritizing young families

As one of many Washburnians raising young children, Daina Degenstein is proud to be a native and lifelong resident of her rural community, but still feels underrepresented by city government.

In citing a number of central factors that led the self-described stay-at-home mom to place her name on the ballot of the upcoming Sept. 20 election to fill a vacancy on the Washburn City Commission, Degenstein expounded on the current disconnect between the local governing body and many of its constituents.
