A Minot man was arrested on four felony charges following a high speed chase through McLean County last week.
At approximately 10:22 p.m. on Nov. 20, McLean County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers received several 911 calls about a reckless driver near Coleharbor. Witnesses reported a Mercury Cougar driving at high speeds going southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 83.
Responding officers encountered the vehicle near the Riverdale turn, but the suspect vehicle continued south, reportedly reaching speeds near 100 miles per hour.
Officers down the highway prepared to set up spike strips to stop the vehicle. Other officers flagged down civilian vehicles, including a school bus, and had them move to the ditch or the shoulder of the roadway.
The suspect vehicle drove through a set of spike strips near Falkirk and decreased in speed until entering a ditch and striking a delineator post in Washburn. The vehicle stopped temporarily before driving further down the ditch near Woodgate Drive, coming to a final stop after hitting a fence, pole and fiber optic cable junction box.
