Elevator to be installed at Memorial Building

To ensure that the basement of the Washburn Memorial Building is consistently accessible to all, an elevator is being installed by the Washburn American Legion.
Commissioner Mike Herdt, who holds the buildings and grounds portfolio, introduced the matter at the Dec. 9 Washburn City Commission meeting.
“They have one ordered, ready to go in,” Herdt said of the elevator. “It’s just going to take a while to get it.”
The Legion has been working to address the building’s current chair lift, which reportedly does not consistently work and causes obstacles for those who have difficulty navigating stairs.
