"Ever since I was a little kid, I've always wanted to be a cop, a firefighter, or an 'ambulance person.' I liked the idea of being someone who enjoys helping other people."
The "little kid" with the "big dreams" has since grown into an accomplished young man. And he'll be the first to tell you that dreams really do come true.
Senior Parker Pochant recently became a certified emergency medical technician (EMT) with the Washburn Volunteer Ambulance Service. He is the first-ever Washburn High School student to successfully complete the training.
"We've had a lot of students help us out, but none have gone on to complete the course," instructor Mary Devlin said. "Although this is not unique to the state of North Dakota, it's a first for Washburn."
During a recent interview, Pochant described the training course that led to his EMT certification.
"The training was an absolute blast. Mary Devlin and Christa Sommer were the greatest instructors we could've asked for. They were very helpful in teaching our class everything we needed to know."
