Enrollments stay stable

Steady stays the course for schools throughout McLean County.
Enrollment remains stable as the 2017-18 school year begins.
In most cases, school officials report consistent or near consistent enrollment numbers from this spring.
School officials remind there are many variables involved in enrollment numbers, including incoming and graduating class size and the mobility of students, or students moving in and out of a district.
Washburn Public School saw a slight jump in enrollment this year, bringing the student population at the school up over the 300 mark for the 2017-18 school year.
Washburn is keeping a steady pace of increasing student numbers, with an additional eight students registered for fall classes, compared to the number of outgoing students this spring. A total of 302 students were set to start classes in Washburn last week, while 294 finished out the 2016-17 school year in May.
“I really don't have an explanation for why our enrollment increased,” Superintendent Brad Rinas said. “I had expected it to hold steady, or perhaps even drop by a couple.”
