Fair folks gather
The McLean County Fair Board reviewed its projected budget, discussed entertainment options and addressed several infrastructure needs during its Jan. 8 meeting at Underwood City Hall.
Board members present were Dennis Erickson, Amanda Huettl, Darcy Klain, Arica Levey, Schell, Mariah Tomlinson and Ashley Wooley. Extension agent Sarah Bedgar also attended.
Entertainment planning occupied a significant portion of the discussion, including potential acts, associated fees and whether lodging costs should be covered. The board also considered whether the concession building could serve as a performance space.
Infrastructure updates included plans for a new fence along the U.S. Highway 83 corridor, which board members described as a safety measure for both livestock and attendees. Improvements to the Horse Arena Announcer Stand are nearly complete, with interior finishing work expected before the 2026 fair.
