Families Helping Families benefit Sunday

By Michael Johnson, Editor

A benefit, to help Washburn natives that are flood victims from Minot, will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Washburn Memorial Building. The benefit proceeds go to the Kelly and Matt Stewart family, the Nadine and Chad Nelson family, the Amy and Chris Edwards family and the Cassie and Ben Podoll family. The homes of those four families and so many others in Minot and Bismarck were completely destroyed by spring flooding. These four families were completely displaced by the flood according to Families Helping Families event organizer Kathy Wachendorf. Due to a lack of housing in Minot and surrounding communities, the families have struggled to find housing. Moving far away isn’t an option for some if they want to keep their job. Paying for new housing and their existing mortgage is putting a strain on them all. Wachendorf, Bobbie Barnhardt, Cindy, Jaime and Colleen Sailer all wanted to help those families out. They decided to put together an event that could bring the community together to support these individuals. The event puts together an evening of entertainment with food, music, a raffle drawing and a silent auction. Food includes sloppy joes, salads, cookies and root beer floats. All the food is being donated and those looking to donate a salad can do so by contacting Wachendorf.
