After a long review process, Washburn has been officially awarded a $1 million federal grant for a new intake structure.
N.D. Senator John Hoeven announced in a press release last week that Washburn was the recipient of a $1,026,025 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant was awarded to the city’s intake improvement project, which aims to replace the current raw water intake to ensure consistent water availability to the city.
“Today’s funding will help replace the old water system, helping mitigate health risks and ensure clean water is available to the community regardless of water levels,” Hoeven said.
Eric Lothspeich of AE2S Engineering said Washburn had previously been selected for the FEMA grant earlier this year, but that the project moved into a stringent review period.
