Painted Woods Golf Course will get $175,000 in Washburn Sales Tax funds over the course of the next five years, after Washburn City Commissioners followed suit with committee approval last month.
The three present Washburn City Commissioners at Monday night’s meeting voted in favor of allocating $35,000 every January starting in 2020 to the Painted Woods Golf Course. The money will be used to help restructure the course’s approximately $800,000 in debt.
The course currently operates on grounds owned by the Washburn Park Board and has loans with Farmers Security Bank and the Bank of North Dakota.
Residents voiced some concern at Monday’s meeting about the the five-year commitment, but were reminded that unless the action by the Sales and Use Tax Committee was illegal, the commission is obligated to approve the recommendation.
