Flag flies at new courthouse

By Michael Johnson, Editor

As the departments of McLean County make the move to the new courthouse, so did a longstanding part of the county. Otter Tail Power Company removed the flag pole from the front of the courthouse on Friday and set it firmly in the ground in front of the new courthouse. The removal and installation took only a few minutes but were done without any mishaps. Otter Tail Power Company volunteers their services for city and county work such as this. Those working to make the move run smooth were Andy Caylor, Steve Hasenwinkel and Travis Klien. Once the pole was lowered, Courthouse maintenance supervisor Curt Malo shoveled in sand to level the pole before it was set for good. States attorney Ladd Erickson attached the  flag to the pole and pulled it to the top of the mast. The First District Health department and the Dakota Central Social Services department are now moved into the building on the first floor. Until further construction and paving is completed at the front of the building, clients are asked to come to the back door, located on the same side of the street as the Law Enforcement Center entrance or Sixth Avenue.
