Flag football future
The Washburn Park Board is in the beginning stages of discussions to launch a youth flag football program to a gap in late-summer recreation once the baseball season ends.
Park board members discussed the idea during their Dec. 10 meeting at City Hall in Washburn, focusing on timing, staffing, equipment needs and how to gauge community interest.
Board member Judy Beaudry said the concept emerged as she looked for activities that could take place after baseball wraps up in mid-July.
“I started thinking about flag football, and I thought, ‘Absolutely we should do that,’” Beaudry said. “We’re through with baseball no later than the second week in July. Why not? The kids that play baseball would love to.”
