The Washburn Public School board announced the selection of its next athletic director during Monday’s meeting.
“Keith Jacobson has accepted the position,” board member Stacy Boeshans said Monday evening during the school’s regular board meeting.
Boeshans said that the board would need to come to an agreement on compensation for the position, which Jacobson will take over starting in the 2018-19 school year. Jacobson, a history and junior high physical education teacher for Washburn, will be replacing longtime athletic director Pete Moe, who is retiring after 40 years with the school.
Luke Retterath, who represents the finance committee, said the committee met with Jacobson to address the AD salary. He said the position currently doesn’t have a salary schedule, but that the committee was strongly considering the possibility.
“We discussed putting it onto a salary schedule,” Retterath said. “We thought it was probably a better way to manage that AD position”
Retterath said Jacobson had asked for 40 weeks of pay at the assistant coach level, equivalent to $186 per week. Retterath said the committee liked this idea, and would start Jacobson at the base level of pay, where first-year coaches begin.
