Jumping for joy

Washburn elementary and middle school students gathered in the Olde Gym last Friday afternoon, to learn what fruits the efforts of all those who had participated in the American Heart Association’s 2016 Jump Rope for Heart Event would bear.

On the line, a pizza party for the top-selling class and a chance for said group to decorate fourth grade instructor Josh Harvey as an ice cream sundae.

More importantly, however, was the opportunity for a group of dedicated people to take pride in working together to successfully reach a lofty goal they had set for themselves.

A palatable and electric buzz of excitement seemed to fill the air as Washburn School Counselor Deb Torkelson stepped to the center of the floor, mic in hand. Torkelson, the event organizer, served as the afternoon’s master-of-ceremonies.
