After some debate over the need for a public commercial kitchen in Washburn, the city’s Sales Tax and Use committee approved a $55,000 allocation toward the Memorial Building renovation.
Darrell Hight, Terry Dworshak and Daryl Metzger of the Washburn American Legion approached the Washburn Sales Tax and Use Committee Monday night asking for help funding a kitchen remodel.
The men told the committee that they were looking to update the kitchen on the main floor of the Memorial Building, making it a licensed commercial kitchen, while also updating the building’s electrical. The entire project was estimated at $110,000, of which the Legion requested half from sales tax funding.
Leilani Olafson questioned the need for a commercial kitchen in the building, saying an established catering company will likely use the space, but won’t cook there.
