‘Journey Stories’ starts off

By Alyssa Schafer, Editor

After months of waiting, the Smithsonian exhibit is finally on display in downtown Washburn. A grand opening event Monday honored the men and women of the armed forces for their contribution to protecting freedom and American life. Guest speaker Brig. Gen. Patrick Martin talked about Pearl Harbor and recognized the World War II veterans in the crowd by having them stand. Martin serves as the Chief of Joint Staff and Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Joint Force Headquarters in Bismarck. Event organizer Milissa Price said Martin was very personable, walking around the room talking with people and shaking hands. During his speech, he talked about the North Dakotans who are members of the National Guard, saying how proud he is of them. At the end of his speech, he received a standing ovation.
