Fixing the leg of Main Avenue that collapsed in March will take more time and much more money than expected, one city engineer told commissioners Monday night.
Jasper Klein of AE2S Engineering gave an update to Washburn City Commissioners Monday, advising them that news on repairing Main Avenue was less than idea.
“After putting plans together and putting estimates together, it ballooned into something higher than I originally expected,” Klein said.
Klein said repairing the collapsed section of Main Avenue between 10th and 11th street was estimated to cost $272,000.
Along with the hefty price tag, the estimate brought another speed bump for the city.
With state law mandating that any municipal project over $200,000 go out for bids, the city will have to advertise for bids instead of choosing a contractor and beginning construction.
