Man arrested for assault on officer

A 35-year-old Garrison man was taken into custody recently after reportedly striking a McLean County Sheriff’s Department in the face multiple times.
According to documents from the sheriff’s department, a female caller contact McLean County dispatchers on the afternoon of Aug. 23, requesting an adult man be removed from her residence in Garrison.
Officers responded and attempted to persuade the man, Earl Hopkins of Garrison, to leave. Hopkins reportedly refused to leave and then struck Sargeant Gordon Malaterre repeatedly in the face and head.
Hopkins was detained and taken to the McLean County Jail on Class C Felony charges of terrorizing, preventing arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer.
Malaterre was taken to Garrison Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
