Washburn’s special election is drawing near. A new mayor will be elected on August 25.

Two individuals recently filed paperwork to have their names listed on the ballot – Commissioner Larry Thomas and Brandon Lazier.

Voting for the special election will take place at the Washburn Memorial Building between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. that very Tuesday. According to Deputy Auditor Sharon Hendrikson, all votes will be counted immediately following the close of the polling site.

Hendrikson also informed city commissioners at Monday night’s meeting that training for election officials will take place this week.

Because no bidders showed up at the recent auction to sell the city’s six-lot lumberyard property, a second auction will take place in September with a minimum starting bid of $20,000 – much lower than the initial starting bid of $60,000. A date for the sale is yet to be determined.
