Miners take National Championship

Wilton Miner archery made a name for itself this weekend, bringing home a Western National Championship title for 3-D shooting.
In its first year taking part in the 3-D competition, which uses three-dimensional targets in place of standard ring targets, Wilton elementary archery took top honors. The team, coached by Caitlyn Ell and Bob Ell, started implementing 3-D targets this season.
This weekend, the team of 17 traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah for Nationals, and brought home gold. The Miners would place first in the 3-D division, making them Western National Champions in the competition.
The team also placed second in the Western National Bullseye competition.
Along with the team honors, several individuals ranked high during the competition.
Tucker Schacher placed second for 3-D and ninth in bullseye. Will Bergquist placed second in bullseye and third in 3-D. Kiara Frederick placed third in 3-D. Hayden Risty took eighth place in the bullseye competition.
