Mixed bag for 2019 harvest

Some crops are looking to see a rebound this year, while others are forecasting for an all-time low harvested acreage across the state.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, barley production in North Dakota is up 35 percent from last year, with a forecasted 38.5 million bushels being produced. Harvested acreage is also up 39 percent for the crop, though yields per acre are down slightly.
Winter wheat is projecting a 12-percent production increase and 7-percent harvested acreage increase, with bushels per acre up by two.
Also faring well in 2019 is corn, which is expecting a 6 percent production increase and 12 percent harvested acres increase. Yields per acre are down by seven bushels to 146 per acre.
