Money OK’d for repairs, improvements

The Washburn City Commission approved a little over $125,000 at Monday’s meeting for repairs and improvements throughout the city.
A total of $117,856 was approved Monday for patching and seal coat work throughout the city, with funds coming from city sales tax money.
Another $4,230 was pulled out of the street maintenance portion of the general fund for an additional patch, though it was expected to possibly cost less.
Approved was $3,000 from the community development budget to repair the Sioux Ferry, which was vandalized in 2016. The work is estimated to take around 4 months to be completed.
A final $3,225 was approved to install new gutters and snow catchers on the Memorial Building in an effort to avoid sheets of snow sliding off the new metal roof in the winter.
“It acts as a barrier for when the roof heats up,” Commissioner Reese Boehm said.
The new roof was installed this spring to replace a shingled roof that was leaking and causing problems inside the building.
