Navigating nature

Children and adults gathered at Audubon Refuge near Coleharbor recently to get a little more in touch with nature and master some new trades.

This year’s annual Blue Goose Day was held at the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge last week, July 14. Over 80 children attended the event, which focused on providing youth with outdoor skill building opportunities. Thirty-two of the 89 participants were girls, while 57 were boys. Of those children, 46 of them were first-time attendees to Blue Goose Day.

A total of 70 adults attended the event with their children, accompanying them to four different field demonstrations - shooting archery, building an ice fishing rod, shooting air rifles and BB guns and building a screen owl nest.

All attending children received door prizes and educational materials before heading to a picnic lunch served after the event.
