New director of WAEDA is ready

By Michael Johnson, Editor

In a sea of 15 highly skilled applicants, the Washburn Area Economic Development Association board chose one that they hope will hit the ground running and see what developments can be made in Washburn. Karen Hansen, of Bismarck, was offered the position of Washburn Economic Development Director and she accepted the position Sept. 30. She was welcomed in by WAEDA President Donna Sommer, Vice President Newly Voigt and members Miles Gradin and Jane Christianson. The group interviewed five applicants after narrowing from the 15, and Hansen stood out for her grant writing skills and her appreciation of the rural area and its development. The board decided to hire a new director after the previous director, Milissa Price, took a full-time position with the City of Washburn. They said a director was needed to continue to implement development in the town.
